American Express Centurion Lounge in Mexico City

Through the chaos of the airport in Mexico City you can find a haven of quiet and luxury. However, make sure you pick the right lounge for the best experience. Here’s what to expect the next time you’re flying through Mexico City.

It was our third time this year at the airport in Mexico City, and this time we were very excited to explore the pre-security lounge in terminal 1. We had been to the Centurion Lounge in Terminal 2 earlier, as well as the post-security lounge in T1 for full comparison.

After some searching, we found the lounge upstairs at the international departures, close to the dark sliding doors with the striking letters “THE CENTURION LOUNGE”. Although it initially didn’t appear that the lounge was open, the sliding doors magically opened as we approached.

At the check-in counter, I presented my Platinum Amex card and asked about the availability of showers. Fortunately, we were granted immediate access to the shower or could relax for a bit first. Additionally, the lounge also offered a spa experience. My partner scheduled a nail treatment for after her shower, while I declined the offer for a free massage.

We settled in comfortably and ordered a glass of cava. Although it took a while for our drinks to be brought, we were able to enjoy the shower one by one afterward—a welcome refreshment after a long day in the heat of Mexico City. The shower was equipped with luxurious l’Occitane Paris cosmetic products and soft towels, making the experience even more enjoyable.

While we were in the shower and spa, the staff kept our table occupied so we could reclaim it once we were ready. We then ordered another drink and asked for the dinner menu. Unfortunately, two of the three main courses and the burger were unavailable, which somewhat limited our choices. Ultimately, we opted for the Margarita pizza and a ham and cheese sandwich. Both dishes were delicious and well presented, leaving us satisfied.

The lounge offered ample seating, although the chairs were not the most comfortable. Overall, however, it was a pleasant place to relax and enjoy the facilities. I would definitely recommend this lounge to anyone flying out of Mexico City. But remember to make sure you’re going to the right lounge to avoid any disappointments.

What Centurion lounge to visit in Mexico City?
The airline you’re flying with will define the terminal you’ll fly out of. We’ve flown through Mexico City with Air Canada, KLM (both Terminal 1) and Aeromexico (Terminal 2). If you’re flying from Terminal 2, there’s only one Centurion Lounge and you will have a great time. However, our first time leaving from Terminal 1 we did not do our proper research and we went straight to the post-security lounge. And since we had such a great first experience with the T2 lounge it was quite a disappointment that the post-security lounge didn’t have any of the amenities similar to its T2 counterpart.

If you are flying out of T2, you get the choice between the pre-security and post-security lounge. In case you’re looking for amenities beyond a complementary food and drinks, such as a shower, spa and nail studio, make sure you visit the pre-security lounge. However, keep in mind that security can be busy, and Mexico City does not offer a priority line for security. If you’re rather looking for a quick bite and a short stop just before your flight, the post-security lounge will be a great option for you.

Conclusion
The Centurion Lounge offering in Mexico City is fantastic. The fact that there are three locations is a little mind boggling. You will have a great experience regardless of which lounge you will visit, but keep in mind that if you fly through Terminal 1, you pick the lounge that suits your needs, or else you may set yourself up for disappointment.

This is all based on experiences from May and July of 2023. The lounges were accessed using a Canadian American Express Platinum card that allows to bring a guest free of charge.
